Welcome Message
Welcome message from Attorney-General Lucien Wong

It is a great honour for the Attorney-General’s Chambers of Singapore to be hosting the 2026 Conference of the Commonwealth Association of Legislative Counsel.
Legislative drafting is a rarefied craft, and the Conference is an invaluable forum for practitioners and scholars across the Commonwealth and beyond to come together to share professional insights and renew personal ties. In a world undergoing profound change, it is vital for us to continue learning from each other as we reshape our own laws to seize new opportunities and meet new challenges.
The timing of the Conference is also particularly apt for Singapore. This year, we are marking the bicentennial of the Second Charter of Justice 1826 — the instrument that established Singapore as a common law jurisdiction.
Outside of the formal programme, AGC Singapore will be hosting a welcome reception for you and your guests at the historic Old Supreme Court building. Do also sign up for the tours we have arranged to give you a glimpse — and a taste — of Singapore.
My team and I wish you a safe journey to Singapore, and look forward to welcoming you to our sunny island very soon. In the four official languages of Singapore: Selamat Datang, 欢迎, நல்வரவு, Welcome!
Lucien Wong
Attorney-General of Singapore
